Electronic Communication Policy and Agreement | |||
| September 2001 Click here to see a copy of the Electronic Communication policy adopted by the School Committees to help insure the safety of students with respect to the use of the school network and Internet gateway. The purpose of this policy is to explain acceptable use of the networks to protect the users and the schools from inappropriate usage. As you are aware, our students are using computers to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge available through the World Wide Web. It is a valuable resource and an integral part of many instructional activities. While our elementary and middle school teachers and staff supervise students' online experiences and the district does filter access to content that is inappropriate for minors, we feel that parents/guardians have the ultimate word on whether or not they would prefer their child/children participating in these activities. We ask that you read the enclosed policy, discuss it with your child as appropriate, and determine whether you wish your child to have access to the Internet. Please indicate your preference(s) on the attached user agreement form that has been placed at the end of this packet. Sign and return only the user agreement form to your building principal or his/her designee. For elementary school students, this agreement will remain in effect for the duration of the student's enrollment at the K-5 level and will be renewed when he/she enters middle school. For middle school students, this agreement will remain in effect for the duration of their enrollment at the middle school and will be renewed when he/she enters high school. Only students who have a signed user agreement on file in the principal's office will have Internet access privileges. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. |
